Expecting the Unexpected
An area of image making that has always fascinated me is how to capture ‘movement’. Part of this ongoing experimentation has been to work with frequent visitors to the garden – birds. They are providing constantly changing ‘experimental situations’.
Each of the following images is part of an ongoing project. Each still image offers ideas for new ideas I am looking to create and giving me methods and approaches to how to end up with the images a really have in my mind.
Slow shutter v Fast Shutter
Small v Large Aperture
ISO settings
Lenses to be used.
Time of day
The type of light available
Weather
All can be used in the ‘planning’ for images, but there is much to be learned by being fast with my reactions to what happens in the moment. And this creates a feedback loop – the more I learn and experience the more capable I am in reacting to the unexpected.
