Heritage in Trauma – Durbar Square, Kathmandu
Two years on from the tragic earthquake of 2015, one of Kathmandu’s tourist jewels, Durbar Square, still openly displays the woulds of that event. A World Heritage Site, the Square remains a sad reminder of nature’s power.
Helping making the reconstruction an even slower process is the lack of tourists. Enter the are and everyone from Guides to trinket sellers, from shops to bicycle rickshaw drivers ask for business. This is not done in the same confident manner you may find at other tourist hubs around the world. Their demeanour and tone display a desperation.
