Monsoon Arrives

June 17th saw the first onslaught of the 2012 Monsoon season in Maharashtra, India. A quiet build up of cloud formations since the 12th June gave little indication of how the new rains would make their introduction.
Heavy rain showers began on the 16th. Humidity rising to very uncomfortable levels until the vapour became ‘hard’ – rain! As soon as the precipitation began, humidity dropped dramatically.
Today, dawn saw a leaden sky with the rain quickly making it’s entrance – accompanied by some thunder and lighting. The light and sound show was intermittent and fairly benign until 11.00 am. The rain became a torrent. Wind increased dramatically. Suddenly, the whole flat I live in was was illuminated by a few super strobes. Simultaneously a clap of thunder rocked the building! ‘Dramatic’ doesn’t come close to describing those few seconds.
The rest of the day brought much more rain, but the meteorological fireworks subsided. And, fortunately, so it appears has the humidity. For how long?
